There are a range of places for swimming in Opotiki, from the main surf beach with life guard patrols to more remote locations that are off the beaten track.

Waiotahi Beach
Waiotahi Beach is a north facing beach in Opotiki. It is located across the opposite side of the entrance to the Ohiwa Harbour from Ohope Spit, and a short distance along the coast. Compared to some busy beach locations in the Bay Of Plenty this one is relatively quiet.
The Opotiki Surf Life Saving Club patrols the beach during the summer months.
Tirohanga Beach
State Highway 35, Opotiki
Tirohanga Beach is a gentle sloping white sand beach located only 5 minutes past Opotiki. Often described as the gateway to the East Cape, Tirohanga Beach is the last accessible beach before the Raukūmara Ranges meet the ocean and the coastline begins to become rocky and the beaches stoney.
